Energy Dance

Wu tao

Wu Tao is meditation in motion.

Wu Tao is a dance-based meditation that activates the flow of energy through rhythmic body movements, accompanied by special music and visualization. This practice helps release accumulated stress and negative thoughts, guiding you into a state of joy and inner peace.

Rooted in Traditional Chinese Medicine, Wu Tao is a form of “dancing do-in.” Each movement connects you to the elements of nature—air, water, wood, fire, and earth—balancing these elements within your body and life. The dance’s simple, natural movements improve flexibility, muscle tone, and refine grace and femininity.

Session Structure:

Each session begins with special exercises to stimulate energy flow, including stretching, self-shiatsu, and do-in exercises. Next, we dance the five elemental dances, followed by a meditation to integrate the healing experience. The final meditation is performed on the floor or through free dance movements. The powerful group energy enhances individual healing for each participant.

Sessions last about an hour (or up to 75 minutes initially, until the movements are mastered). Classes are held twice a week.

Elements and Dances:

  • Air/Metal Element:
This element encourages letting go of the old and embracing new experiences. Imbalance manifests as sadness, attachment, and difficulty in releasing the past, often affecting the lungs, large intestine, and immunity. The Air/Metal dance stimulates the flow of energy through the lung and colon meridians, balancing these aspects.

  • Water Element:
Water governs vitality, including sexual energy, and represents deep conditioning passed down from our ancestors. Imbalance can cause low energy, reproductive issues, and kidney or bladder problems. The Water dance restores energy flow through the kidney and bladder meridians, promoting overall vitality.

  • Wood Element:
Linked to self-expression and standing up for oneself, the Wood element encourages you to live your purpose. Imbalance shows as anger or frustration, often manifesting physically through liver and gallbladder issues. The Wood dance restores energy flow through the liver and gallbladder meridians, helping to balance these emotional and physical aspects.

  • Fire Element:
The Fire element brings joy, optimism, and love into life. Imbalance can lead to pessimism, depression, and poor circulation. The Fire dance stimulates the flow of energy through the heart, small intestine, and other related meridians, bringing vitality and celebration to life.

  • Earth Element:
The Earth element governs nourishment, digestion, and balance in giving and receiving. Imbalance manifests as anxiety and digestive issues. The Earth dance stimulates the flow of energy through the spleen and stomach meridians, balancing emotional and physical aspects related to this element.

Each dance helps you connect with the elements, balance energy, and heal holistically, promoting overall well-being.
